First time on elections – Story of Halima (Podcast)
Žene Jugoslavije su prvi put dobile biračko pravo 1945. godine, ranije nego većina žena u Europi. Halima je na izbore izašla prvi put sa svojih 70 godina. Taj trenutak, kako je tada zapisala Radmila Begović, doživljava kao vrhunac slobode i ravnopravnosti. Izlazak na izbore za nju, ali i za mnoge druge žene je u tom trenutku značio da su postale vlasnice svoje sudbine.
Svečanost i važnost ovog trenutka danas za mnoge djevojke i žene ne postoji, izbrisan je iz kolektivnog sjećanja žena, ali i iz istorije. Shvaćamo ga kao datost i zaboravljamo dugotrajne borbe i žrtve koje su mnoge žene za nas podnijele kako bi mi danas mogle i morale biti ekonomski samostalne, politički emancipirane i svoje.
Ova priča pod naslovom: „Prvi put na izborima“ pronađena je u časopisu Nova žena iz 1945. godine, koji su uređivale članice Antifašističkog fronta žena Bosne i Hercegovine.

Yugoslavian women got the right to vote in 1945, earlier than most women in Europe. Halima took part in the elections for the first time at the age of 70. As Radmila Begović wrote at the time, she sees that moment as the peak of freedom and equality. Going to the polls for her, but also for many other women, meant at that moment that they became the owners of their own destiny.
The solemnity and importance of this moment does not exist today for many girls and women, it has been erased from the collective memory of women, as well as from history. We take it as a given and forget the long-term struggles and sacrifices that many women made for us so that today we could and must be economically independent, politically emancipated and our own.
This story entitled: “The first time in the elections” was found in the magazine Nova žena from 1945, which was edited by members of the Anti-Fascist Women's Front of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
