In the cylinder of ether

Through mediation of sound technologies, the installation “In the cylinder of ether,”, treats sound not only as a carrier of meaning and a bodily sensation, but also, as a medium in itself. Namely, through sound, Sahačić makes the perception of electromagnetic frequencies possible. Using modified microphones, the artist records signals released by ATM-s, illuminated advertisements, sliding automatic doors, thus capturing the inaudible traces of our electromagnetic reality. These traces are then transposed into the human audible spectrum and turned into protagonists, or perhaps better said, antagonists of Sahačić's sound scores. Pollution of the ether with electromagnetic frequencies that we cannot perceive is transformed into sound stimulations. However, the distribution of these sounds turns the act of listening into a spatial experience. The circular setup of six speakers emitting 32 tracks results in an installation that stimulates us to think about the world and our place in it.
